Kilcrohane Graveyard
This church is recorded as having been in ruins by 1639. The stone walls still stand, without a roof, surrounded by graves - old and modern. It remains an essential part of the community and is currently used as a burial ground. Kilcrohane takes its name after St Crohan who founded a small religious settlement here. Originally thought to be a Kerry native, he arrived in Kilcrohane sometime in the mid-5th century. This old church, which dates from the medieval period, may stand on the site of his original cell. Located in Kilcrohane townland, go through the village heading west, turn left at the playground and follow the road down to the site.
In 2020 the Sheep's Head Way and volunteers undertook digitising of the graveyard and erected an information board. Details about this project can be found here.
