Finn McCool’s Seat
The mountain of Seefin is the highest peak on the peninsula at about 345mtrs. Suí Finn is the original name meaning “the Seat of Finn” after the legendary and large character Finn McCool, who sat on this mountain with his feet in Farranamanagh Lake. The stone bench situated here was sculpted by Cork sculptor Ken Thompson and unveiled at the official opening of the Sheeps Head Way in 1996 by the President of Ireland at the time Mary Robinson. The inscription on the seat reads "water and ground in their extremity", taken from the poem “The Peninsula” by Seamus Heaney as it fittingly sums up the Sheep's Head Way experience.
