Ahakista Bridge

Single-arch road bridge spanning Ahakista Stream, built c.1830. Regularly coursed limestone block construction with segmental arch and ashlar voussoirs. Piers, parapet and string courses.\nThis structure is an excellent example of the high level of craftsmanship employed in the construction of rural bridges during the nineteenth century. It stands as testament to the early efforts which were made to improve road links in this area. - Courtesy of NIAH
