Dooneen Pier
A deep water pier originally built in the 1800s, this impressive structure catered for large ships importing coal and salt for the fishing industry. The remains of a storehouse for these commodities can be seen close by and behind this, a concrete magazine used to store the gelignite used in the pier's construction. Dooneen Pier has a long history of use and it's history and nautical navigation are discussed in depth on Michael Harpur's excellent eoceanic.com site, which is linked below.
